Black History Month Event: "Contemplating 400 Years of Inequality”

Blog

Ideal for anyone that has led or participated in a book club or other discussions dedicated to antiracism, this training will provide participants with the knowledge they need to guide mindful dialogue and facilitate learning experiences across diverse perspectives.

This experience involves taking a virtual walk through history and an opportunity to sit with and discuss the legacy of systems that reproduce discrimination and inequality. Using a digital timeline as a contemplative learning tool, participants meditate, journal, and discuss how to deepen their understanding of entrenched racial and socio-economic inequality in the United States. This experience supports participants with processing bias and racism by creating a safe and fluid learning environment for participants to grow and work through these difficult topics.

Core Objectives:

  • Expose participants to the interlinked events that situate the long lasting legacy of racism and structural inequality in the U.S.
  • Provide a space for participants to process the weight of history and how it shows up in the present
  • Equip participants with language and tools for processing personal and intergenerational trauma

Attendees will learn how to re-imagine how we can both transcend implicit bias and develop a more compassionate society and harness the power of community and literature.
